The creator of PUBG, Krafton, has filed a lawsuit against Garena, accusing them of duplicating PUBG: Battlegrounds. Also, this is only some of it. Krafton has filed a lawsuit against Apple and Google for selling Garena’s titles through their app stores. Google has also been accused of hosting YouTube videos containing the gameplay of the two Garena games with which Krafton has a dispute, as well as “numerous posts containing a feature-length Chinese film that is nothing more than a blatantly infringing live-action dramatization of Battlegrounds.”

The two games, Garena Free Fire and Garena Free Fire Max, for which Krafton has filed suit against these companies. Both titles are free with in-app purchases on the App Store and Play Store.
According to Krafton, both Garena Free Fire and Garena Free Fire Max copied many aspects of PUBG: Battlegrounds, including the copyrighted “airdrop” opening feature, the gameplay and structure, locations, the combination and selection of weapons, and the overall color schemes, materials, and textures.
The developer of PUBG has claimed that Garena has made millions from in-app purchases. Apple and Google have generated comparable amounts of revenue from the distribution of Free Fire.

Krafton asserts that it urged Garena on December 21 to “immediately cease its exploitation of Free Fire and Free Fire Max,” but Garena refused. Apple and Google were also asked to cease distributing the games, but both are available in their respective app stores.
YouTube has not yet removed videos containing Free Fire and Free Fire Max gameplay “that include elements that blatantly infringe Battlegrounds and, separately, the infringing feature-length film,” per Krafton’s request.
Krafton alleged that Garena sold a “copied” version of PUBG: Battlegrounds in Singapore in 2017. While the claims regarding this game were settled, no license agreement was established, according to the lawsuit.
Apple and Google have not yet commented on Krafton’s lawsuit, and Jason Golz, a spokesperson for Sea, the parent company of Garena, told The Verge that Krafton’s claims are “baseless.”
