Nissan and Renault Set Up Research Centers in Silicon Valley

Nissan and Renault have set up offices in Mountain View to continue their work in the silicon valley. While the Mountain View office will not be the same as the Sunnyvale lab, its engineers will continue to be located in Sunnyvale. In fact, Renault engineers will remain in Sunnyvale until their work in Mountain View is complete. Other companies will also set up labs in Mountain View. But the two major automakers have a long history in Silicon Valley.

Nissan Research Center Silicon Valley

The new Nissan Research Center in Silicon Valley is part of a global strategy by the Japanese automaker to localize the R&D function in key markets. Its researchers will conduct research in Human Machine Interface to improve connected vehicle services and will study how humans and machines interact. The Silicon Valley facility will also collaborate with the Nissan Research Center in Japan. As a result, the center is already generating innovative ideas for future Nissan vehicles. For example, the Nissan Research Center is already working on developing driverless cars.

The center will be home to a number of departments, including advanced driving assistance systems, connected vehicle technologies, and human machine interface. The Center will also be the home to a number of full-system prototypes for testing and other research activities. The company plans to employ more than 200 people at the Silicon Valley facility, which will help the company to continue its global expansion strategy. In addition to its research efforts, the Nissan Research Center will help the automaker to create more affordable cars, including crossovers and SUVs.

OpenAI research center

While the Silicon Valley OpenAI research center has not officially begun operations, it has already attracted an impressive array of talent, including Google’s Ilya Sutskever and Stripe’s Greg Brockman. The group will begin with seven researchers, including standouts from Stanford, the University of California, Berkeley, and New York University. The founders say they will continue to expand the project based on progress and market need.

While OpenAI aims to create an open source AI system, it does not claim to be able to make the technology available to the public for free. The nonprofit research center is focused on developing an open source artificial general intelligence system. The investment comes from prominent Silicon Valley investors including Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Reid Hoffman, and Jessica Livingston. These investors are passionate about using AI to augment human intelligence and use it for the good of humanity. Other investors include Y Combinator’s Sam Altman and India’s Infosys.

IBM Research – Almaden

While many of the researchers at the IBM Research – Almaden Silicon Valley Research Centre are solitary, those working at the lab view themselves as “wild ducks” who are free to pursue projects outside of the company’s headquarters. While the work is fascinating, the researchers at Almaden see the big picture and work with new technologies to find the “next big thing.”

The IBM TrueNorth chip has already received multiple accolades and is now used by Lawrence Livermore National Lab to support missions for the National Nuclear Security Administration. It was also awarded the prestigious Misha Mahowald Prize, which honors an influential pioneer in neuromorphic engineering. Despite her death, her novel designs have influenced a new generation of scientists. Today, IBM Research – Almaden continues to grow at a rapid rate, achieving key scientific breakthroughs and building impactful solutions.

Intel 8080

The 8080 is an early microprocessor developed by Intel. This chip is a general purpose 8-bit processor that is limited in its ability to perform sixteen-bit operations. The 8080 features two specialized register pairs: HL and CY. Each pair has a different purpose. The specialized register pairs help engineers use transistors more efficiently. The 8080 microprocessor revolutionized the computing industry. It was able to move beyond cabinet-sized minicomputers and air-conditioned cathedrals. Its design was partly a result of chance. The 4004 chip was an improvised collection of parts that was intended to cut down on the cost of developing chips for the desktop calculator project. However, the 8080 proved to be the most successful processor, making computers more affordable and more powerful.

SRI International

SRI International, Inc. is a technology research organization that specializes in advancing the science of information. Their work has produced the computer mouse, the electronic pen and the prototype Windows operating system. While founded as an affiliate of Stanford University, SRI is now a nonprofit organization. Researchers at SRI specialize in fields including information science, software development, computer and materials engineering, energy and environmental technology, robotics, biotechnology, sensors and measurement systems, and more. In addition, SRI also consults in the social sciences and contributes to new thinking in the areas of health, education, and public policy.

The SRI Institute is one of the most advanced research and development centers in the world. Some of its recent accomplishments include a project for the U.S. Defense Department that resulted in Siri for the iPhone. The center also develops foliage and ground-penetrating radar for the U.S. National Guard. The organization is at the forefront of scientific advancements. Its work has helped advance the science of artificial intelligence.

Ford Fusion Hybrid Autonomous Research Vehicle

A new automaker is joining the race for driverless cars, with the launch of a new research center in Silicon Valley. Ford will be testing its autonomous Fusion Hybrid vehicles in Silicon Valley. This is part of the company’s Smart Mobility Plan, which will include connectivity and big data use. The company will unveil its new car at CES next week in Las Vegas. During the CES show, the company will show off its fully autonomous Fusion Hybrid Autonomous Research Vehicle.

Located in Palo Alto, California, the Ford Fusion Hybrid Autonomous Research Centre will enable Ford to test self-driving cars on public roads. In an official statement, the automaker characterized this move as a major step in the company’s 10-year autonomous vehicle development program. The program is an important element of Ford Smart Mobility, which focuses on connectivity, mobility, customer experience and data. In Palo Alto, Ford will have an increased presence with over 100 researchers.
